Towards the end of the Bonita Bay fundraising and building campaign, Southwest Florida was affected by COVID-19. Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry counties closely monitored the escalations surrounding the pandemic. In an effort to protect Habitat homeowners, future homeowners, and the community for whom we deeply care, we increased our efforts to combat the effects of COVID-19 in the weeks ahead. This pandemic caused the abrupt halt of volunteer activity, active fundraising, and any scheduled end of season celebrations due to social distancing rules.
This was a heart-wrenching circumstance when the Nail Pounders were just completing their first of three scheduled homes and Captains were wrapping up their record-breaking fundraising. Scheduled wall raisings were delayed which directly affected the second and third homes personally sponsored by Bonita Bay residents.
Regardless of all the challenges and obstacles that came with this pandemic, Bonita Bay residents’ resilience shined through. Not only did Bonita Bay surpass previous years’ donations, there were multiple generous gifts from new and recurring major donors that arrived during the pandemic.
- There was a 20% increase in giving from Bonita Bay Residents from last year.
- This year, there was an increase of 22% in the average gift size from Bonita Bay Residents.
- There were 10 major donors (over $10,000) with 2 personal home sponsorships from Bonita Bay residents in the 2019/2020 fiscal year.
In these uncertain times, we pray that you and your loved ones are safe. We cannot wait for the day where we, once again, are working alongside one another—putting God’s love into action and providing a hand up to families in need.
On behalf of the Habitat Board, staff, volunteers, and homeowners, thank you for your generous support. Bonita Bay’s participation ensures that Habitat can continue to provide safe, decent, and affordable homes to those in need in Bonita Springs. It is because of our community partners that we are successful and able to continue building together in pursuit of strength, stability, and self-reliance.
